The Okanlomo of Ibadan Land, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi has expressed sadness over the death of a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Najeem Raheem, a photojournalist with the Guardian Newspaper who reportedly died on Monday morning after a brief illness.
Senator Akanbi said Najeem belonged to a generation of journalists who perceived journalism as an opportunity to offer selfless service to the country and its people.
He described the late Najeem as a humble, fearless and hardworking journalist who approached every assignment with all sense of professionalism and excellence. Though young, his contribution to journalism over the years remains outstanding.
He commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased and the Nigeria Union of Journalists over the sad and irreparable loss. Having led an exemplary life as evident in his diligence and commitment to his work and having distinguished himself excellently in his chosen profession, no doubt, he would be greatly missed in the NUJ family.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this trying time and I pray that God will comfort and strengthen them by His Grace.
My heartfelt condolences go to the entire NUJ, Oyo state chapter, I pray that the Almighty grant you all the much-needed strength that you need as you mourn this significant loss and it is my prayer that may God Almighty bring an end to such occurrences in our midst.”
