Senator Yunus Akintunde the Distinguished Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District has described as sad and unfortunate the incidence in Ibadan where many victims died including children and others injured at an organized children Christmas funfair.

This was contained in a release made available to the media through Kunle Olatunji, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Yunus Akintunde.

He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the affected victims the government and the people of Oyo State and the entire Nation in grief and pray that Almighty God consoles the affected families during this very agonizing and sad period.

“Though there were conflicting information on the actual number of casualties and investigation is still on going to verify the cause of the stampede which led to the loss of lives and injuries of varying degrees on the affected victims”.

“It was with unimaginable grief and sincere worries that I recieved the sad news of the unfortunate incidence, the devastating effect on the families of the affected victims. May their innocent souls rest in perfect peace”.

“Although these are not moments for apportioning blames, however, it will be absolutely necessary and important for thorough assessment of the situation, carry out necessary investigations to avoid future occurrences of such unfortunate incidence”.

Dr Yunus Akintunde also used the opportunity to advice organizers of events to be more proactive and pay attention to details in planning while parents and the general public should be extremely careful and cautious participating in
activities in crowded areas and events especially during this festive season.

” While we acknowledge that death is inevitable, however within our human control and capacity, we must do everything possible to ensure the protection of lives of every citizen and at all times, we should do everything possible to avoid occurrence of such tragic events in our society where we must always hold lives as very critical and important” he concluded.
