The senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr Yunus Akintunde has been honoured with the Special Meritorious Service Award on Community Development at the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria.
The special event alongside a fundraising program held on Friday 9th February 2024, during the Vice Chancellor’s Merit Award ceremony was part of several programs marking the 8th Convocation of the University.
This is contained in a release to the media by Kunle Olatunji, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Akintunde.
In his speech during the ceremony, Professor Abayomi Fasina, the Vice Chancellor of the University described Dr Yunus Akintunde as a unique personality, a leader with a deep appreciation of values of commitment to human capacity and community development initiatives.
It will be observed that the selection of the Awardees is unique, with criteria on performances and the impact of their contributions in their various sphere of influence.
In his words, Professor Fasina mentioned “Having been an illustrious person and an exemplary leader in contemporary Nigeria, with a positive impact on the lives of the vast majority of people and in serving as a role model of note to the young people through your enormous contributions on the growth and development of our society and the nation at large, the University Management has approved that it be conferred on your highly esteemed self, a Special Meritorious Service Award on Community Development this day 9th February 2024”.
While responding after receiving the Award, Senator Akintunde expressed his appreciation to the institution for the honor bestowed on him.
“This honor by the Management and the entire academic community at the Federal University of Oye Ekiti is a reminder to intensify my commitment towards adding value to the various aspects of our human endeavor especially the academic community where lives are shaped and leaders are trained for the present and future leadership engagements.
“I have been able to observe the progress this institution has made with landmark developments within the short period of its establishment”.
“I assure the Management of this great citadel of learning to support the vision of the institution in the drive towards being recognized among the league of leading Universities globally.
Notable dignitaries on the entourage of Dr Yunus Akintunde were Hon. Kareem Adedeji, Hon Femi Akintunde, Alhaji Tesleem Adeniran, Alhaji Demola Onipede, Alhaji Sherif Adesokan and Dr. Akeem Alatise.
The Vice-Chancellor and the entire Academic community received Senator Akintunde and his entourage with enthusiasm while they were conducted around the University for an assessment of the progress the institution has made in the past years since its establishment.
