He lived from 1946 to 2020. I did not know his professional life. I knew him for his kindness, generosity, entrepreneurship, thoughtfulness and collaborative spirit at the University of Ibadan Senior Staff Club. He bore no ill will against anybody. It was Johnson Akanmu, also known as Fadaka, who recently drew my attention to his exceptional professional career.
The legacy of Chief Kadiri Ajasa Apampa, a trailblazer in Science Laboratory Technology, continues to inspire professionals in Nigeria. As a pioneering leader, President/Chairman of Council, the Nigerian Institute of Science Technology (NIST, now the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory, NISLT) from 1994 to 1997, he played a crucial role in advancing the profession through his work with the Institute.

Chief Apampa’s contributions to the field are undeniable. His leadership and vision paved the way for the professionalisation of Science Laboratory Technology in Nigeria. His efforts to secure statutory recognition for the profession, though challenging, ultimately bore fruit. The NISLT Act, which was passed in 2003, stands as proof of his dedication and perseverance.

As I reflect on Chief Apampa’s life and work, which I found difficult to address in the past tense, I recognise his contributions to Science Laboratory Technology and decent society. His legacy continues to inspire professionals and serve as a reminder of the importance of dedication, friendship, love and perseverance.
Rest on, Chief Apampa, in the bossom of your Maker!
