The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, FAS, mni has stated that the University of Ibadan will strenuously improve on its research activities.
Speaking on the 2023 world universities ranking recently released by the Times Higher Education (THE), Professor Adebowale lamented the low scores recorded in research as the reason for the seemingly low ranking as compared to a very high score in citation.
He expressed his excitement at the various steps being taken by the University to collaborate with relevant stakeholders and organisations globally, a feat made easier since the creation of the office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships.
With this and other efforts, the VC expressed the confidence that the University of Ibadan will maintain its leadership position in Nigeria, West Africa and Africa.
The VC made all these observations when he received participants at a training workshop on yam genetics in his office on a courtesy visit.
The workshop is an Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation sponsored Research Group Linkage Programme titled Yam Genetics & Omics Research in Africa jointly organised by the Department of Pharmacognosy, UI and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture.
The team was led by the Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. S.O.Idowu. Other members were Prof. Dirk Albach, Carl-Von-Ossietzky University Oldenburg, Germany; Prof. Mubo Sonibare, Faculty of Pharmacy, UI and Dr. Ragneesh Paliwal from IITA.
