The 2019 Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Oyo-State, Oloye Abdul-Waheed Adebayo Adelabu has organised an “Iftor” get together with the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) and the Executives of New Media in Oyo State.

The former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Adelabu thanked the NUJ leadership and new media frontiers for honouring his invitation.

“Thanks for your love. Thanks for reporting the truth and I want you to know that I hold you in high esteem. Thank you for the love you showed me during my 50th birthday celebrations.

While addressing the young media men in attendance, Adelabu stated that, “I feel humbled and I’m happy to see you here, thanks for your supports and love. I belong to your generation and I will never let you down, once again, thanks and I love you too.

On his political ambition, Adelabu maintained that, “I’m still very much interested in guber race come 2023 because Oyo State deserves the best. Without sounding immodest, I remain a credible alternative. The experience of leading a complex organisation is there and with your collective supports, we will definitely govern Oyo-State progressively and prosperously.

While reacting to the issues of insecurity in that state , Adelabu stated that, ” two years are enough for any business-minded governor to show what he has in stock as the state helmsman.

” Look at my readiness to re-build the police stations which were burnt during EndSARS protests. It has appeared to me to take such steps immediately after the incidents but I didn’t take any step then because I don’t want my humble gestures to be misconceived as politics. We waited for many months for the state government to live up to people’s expectations but after seven months that government is not forthcoming, from humanitarian points of views and due to my statesmanship instinct, I needed and took steps to solidarise with Nigeria Police Force(NPF), Oyo-State Command and with the families of slain police officers.

On Oyo APC internal politics, Adelabu lauded the party leadership under the watch of Chief Akin-Oke and he stated that, “To come out victorious, our people must be very united. Oyo APC is heavy with great men and women and we must use the heaviness as an advantage to dislodge the current PDP led government in the state.

While commending the seasoned administration of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Adelabu said that “In the 8 years of immediate past progressive era led by Governor Ajimobi , you could never experience this deterioration of security in the State.

“Gentlemen of the press, I’m not saying you should be partial but try to remain objective as you are. Report facts and figures of happening in the state and let’s everybody play his parts to save this state”, Adelabu charged the newsmen.

In his own remarks, Oyo NUJ Chairman, Mr Ademola Babalola, thanked Oloye Adelabu for the invitation. He described Adelabu as a true lover of press and he reminisced how Adelabu as the then CBN Deputy Governor called him on phone, and demanded for home grown journalists to included in an assignment.

While giving the votes of thanks, A renowned APC Chieftain in the state, Hon. Wale Murphy Olatunji thanked the Pressmen for coming. He extolled the virtues of Oloye Adelabu and described him as the best man for the “Oyo helmsmanship job” that the people of the state need to give their full supports and their mandates come 2023.
