The 14th Governing Council under the leadership of Professor Matthew Odedokun, the Provost, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo, Dr. Rasak Adetunji Adefabi, JP on Tuesday, 17 August, 2021 led other top College Management Team in a parley with the RCC Team of Engineers towards ensuring that a pedestrian bridge is constructed to ease human traffic across the Ogbomoso- Oyo highway under construction in front of the College gate when completed.
According to a release by ‘Wale Adeoye, Special Assistant on Media Matters to the Provost, this came on the heels of the directive of the Hon. Minister for Works, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola on the appeal of the College Management that it is important that a pedestrian bridge is built on the ongoing Oyo-Ogbomoso road to avert accidents for staff and students of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo.
According to the Provost, the College Chief Security Officer, “there is need to be proactive as we cannot fold our arms until any untoward development takes its toll. The security of the lives of our students and staff remain a priority and cannot be compromised “. The Management under my watch places premium on the security of lives of staff and students of the College and we are fully aware that crossing the expressways would pose serious threat to lives of members of the College Community. This led us to crying out early and I want to thank the Honourable Minister for Works, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola for quickly acceding to our request. It means a lot to us and we are highly grateful to him and the visiting team led by the Chief Resident Engineer, Engr. Mrs. O. M. Olarerin”.
Speaking on the authority of the College Chief Executive, the College Director of Works and Maintenance, Arc. H. O. Amuda explained the importance attached to the pedestrian bridge by the College. “Our efforts to have the pedestrian bridge is not unconnected to our belief in the general saying that “prevention is better than cure”. “Members of the College Community must be able to cross the express roads with ease and this bridge remains the easiest means of crossing over to the College gate. We plead that it comes to fruition as early as possible”, he submitted.
In his response, the RCC Project Manager, Engr. Yuri Visman thanked the College Management for acting very fast in its request. According to him, “let me register the fact that as at the time the road construction was planned, there was no School here then, so it was not captured. However, now that it has been raised and for the safety of lives, I wish to assure you that it shall be done once fund is made available by the government.” He later brought out the bridge design and in a joint movement with members of the College Management, he gave a nod to where the pedestrian bridge would be sited.
In his final remarks, the College helmsman expressed appreciation to the visiting team and promised that the College Management shall give necessary and needed support to make the project come into fruition.
The tripartite parley with the RCC Project Manager, Engr. Yuri Visman had on the College Management Team led by the Provost, Dr. Rasak Adetunji Adefabi, JP, the Deputy Provost, Dr. Nelson Aderemi Oyewo, Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Siju Asunmo, Ag. Bursar, Mr. Emmanuel Oluninyo Adegoke, College Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Serifat Mojisola Asiru and the Director of Works and Maintenance, Arc. Hammed O. Amuda while the Federal Ministry of Works Team had the Chief Resident Engineer, Engr. Mrs. O. M. Olarerin, Ass. Chief Resident Engineer, Engr. C. A. Akwali and the Principal Resident Engineer, Engr. Mrs. R. O. Oyelami.
