Oyo state government has opened the Agara bridge along New-Garage-Elebu – Apata road for vehicular and pedestrian use after reconstruction.
The 75 metres long dual carriageway bridge opening attracted commendations from road users and people of the community.
The new bridge on the Ona River along Akala Expressway, Agara bridge officially known as Theophilus Akinyáşıle Way is a world bank assisted project executed through the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project, IUFMP.
It was necessitated by the ongoing flood channelization in the area thereby replacing the 25 metres long bridge formally on the river.
Addressing the people of the area, the Project Coordinator, IUFMP, Engr Olasunkanmi Shokeye said though the project is 97% completed, the remaining aspects will be done without hindering traffic.
He expressed appreciation to the State government for giving necessary resources that helped in timely completion of the project in a record time of about six months.
The Chairman, Agara Community Landlord and Residents Association, Comrade Sola Olayiwola, in his remarks lauded the commitments of Governor Seyi Makinde at improving the infrastructural facilities across the state.
Some road users also commended the state government for the project, noting that it has finally put a stop to their fears about annual flooding along the river channel.
