As a result of the heavy downpour experienced in Ìbàdàn yesterday June 30th, 2020, some areas in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital were severely flooded.
The affected areas include: Oke Omi and Ikumapayi in Olodo axis as well as Sawmill bridge, Onipepeye along Old Ife road.
This made a lot of people to abandon their homes as they scampered to safety.
In light of this, the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde went on an assessment tour of the affected areas.
While commiserating with the affected people, the Governor promised to follow and upgrade the drainage master plan for Ibadan as provided by the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP).
He said that once the various ongoing projects are completed, the master plan will ensure that future flood occurrences will be averted.
Governor Makinde also stated that plans are underway to remove structures on the waterways as these contribute to flood fatalities. He promised that the government will enumerate such properties and relocate the affected people.
Governor Makinde has also directed the Caretaker Chairman in charge of the Sawmill area to write for approval so that a better bridge can be constructed in the area.
