I have been trying to write something about former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Seyi Makinde. The two warring Leaders held separate meetings on Monday, March 23, 2026.
While Wike attended the National Executive Council, NEC meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abuja, Governor Seyi Makinde summoned a PDP Stakeholders meeting in Ibadan.
Like I said, I have been trying to create time to react to the statements of both Leaders to their followers since Tuesday but my schedules didn’t allow me.
While trying to make time for that particular development, news broke out to the effect that Governor Makinde has embarked on another reckless purchases of cars and motorcycles for Council Vice Chairmen, Councilors and PDP ward Chairmen.
I saw reports and videos which suggest, allegedly, that Governor Makinde just purchased brand new vehicles for the 33 Local Government Vice Chairmen in Oyo state and the 351 ward Councilors.
It is further alleged that the Governor also purchased electric motorcycles for the 351 PDP ward Chairmen in the state as well.
I immediately decided to react to that report together with the meetings of Monday, March 23, 2026.
Honestly, Governor Seyi Makinde is in a state of serious dilemma.
He requires all the tricks in the world to hold together his crumbling political empire.
I will not be surprised if he decides to be distributing cars to even, every beggar in Oyo state.
However, Governor Seyi Makinde owes every citizens of Oyo state an explanation as to whose resources were used in purchasing cars and motorcycles for Councilors, Vice Chairmen and PDP ward Chairmen.
Secondly, he owes citizens of Oyo state an explanation about whether the cars and motorcycles are outright gifts to the beneficiaries or some kind of mortgage arrangements where they would be required to pay back the money for the purchase of the cars and motorcycles.
I have to say here that Governor Makinde had before now, distributed cars for PDP state Executives and party Chairmen.
I am a former Supervisory Councilor for Works in my Local Government.
I am aware of the fact that Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Councilors and indeed, members of the Local Government Executives, comprising of the Local Government Secretary and Supervisors are entitled to car loans.
I am also aware that this loans, if approved and disbursed to them, must be paid back through deductions from their monthly salaries.
I am not aware of any Law or statutes which empowers the Governor of a state or Local Government Chairmen, to distribute cars or motorcycles to themselves, Vice Chairmen, Councilors and members of Local Government Executives free of charge.
I am also not aware of any Law that empowers the Governor of a state or Local Government Chairmen to distribute cars or motorcycles to party officials at any level, free of charge, except perhaps, the resources are drawn from personal purses.
Now, I will like Governor Seyi Makinde to tell the citizens of Oyo state, whose resources were used, to buy the fleet of cars and motorcycles, allegedly purchased for Vice Chairmen, Councilors, Local Government Executives and party officials at different levels.
If the resources for the purchases actually belong to Government, will the Governor tell us which tier of Government provided the resources, state or Local Government?
Which Law or statutes gives the Governor the power to embark on such reckless purchases?
Are the cars and motorcycles outright gifts or meant to be paid for on installments?
If that is the case, what is the wisdom in buying the cars when the Council officials have just about a year left in office and could never be able to pay back considering their monthly salaries?
Not to even talk of PDP ward Chairmen who have no way of paying back.
What is the rationale for gifting out cars and motorcycles to Local Government and party officials when developments in the 33 Local Governments are nothing to write home about?
I am throwing a direct challenge at the Media to follow up on this very worrisome and unfortunate development.
There is no Governor in the history of Oyo state who committed Government resources into purchasing cars for all manner of people as Governor Makinde has done in the past seven years.
No wonder, his former friend, Nyesom Wike was mocking him on Monday, telling him that politics and governance are not like private enterprises.
I want to sound a note of warning to the would be beneficiaries of these cars and motorcycles, watch your backs.
There will be dire consequences if crimes are committed in the processes of purchasing and distribution of those cars and motorcycles.
A day of reckoning will surely come.
A couple of days ago, Governor Makinde approved a paltry ten thousand Naira monthly, for civil servants and retirees.
These are mostly , well educated people who have been dedicating their lives and time to partner Government in driving its policies.
To Governor Seyi Makinde, ten thousand Naira monthly for a period of time is ok for them but his party officials and Local Government political office holders who are already collecting fat salaries deserve to be rewarded with brand new cars and motorcycles!
Friend of the civil servants indeed!
I am waiting for Governor Makinde to either deny or confirm and justify this allegations.
Like I said before, I know Governor Makinde is under intense pressure.
He is at the risk of witnessing a tsunami in the coming days.
In the circumstances he has found himself, he needs every tricks to keep his followers together but I think it shouldn’t be at the detriment of state resources.
He has wasted a lot of resources on a failed attempt to take over the structures of the PDP.
Are those resources from his personal pocket?
I won’t be surprised if the funds spent on the purchase of those cars and motorcycles actually belong to the 33 Local Governments.
Local Governments that have been starved of funds for developmental projects for the past seven years.
I will follow this matter diligently and that takes me to the Monday night separate meetings by Governor Makinde and former Governor Nyesom Wike and their followers.
Governor Seyi Makinde met with PDP Stakeholders across the 33 Local Governments on Monday.
I have seen the Governor’s address on the occasion and I was surprised that, up till now, Governor Makinde is lacking the courage, or is it that he couldn’t bring his ego down to tell his followers that he has lost out in the power tussle over the control of the PDP with Wike?
Honestly, I don’t blame him.
Those I will continue to blame are those who are still expecting a miracle that will hand over the structures of the PDP back to Governor Seyi Makinde.
I am surprised that Governor Makinde is still saying that the Congresses of the PDP which they had last November is still valid.
Is he not aware of the fact that the PDP, under the Leadership of the former Deputy Governor, Hanzim Gbolarunmi just concluded their Congresses and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC participated?
If the PDP which he controls today, holds a primary election and INEC is invited, will the Commission be part of the exercise?
If Candidates are produced tomorrow under his faction of the PDP, which National Secretary and Chairman would forward their names to INEC?
Is it Turaki and Arapaja who have been barred by the Courts from parading themselves as National Working Committee, NWC of the PDP?
I likened Governor Makinde’s statements to his followers on Monday to that of the farmer, who planted a hundred tubers of yam but went about, saying that he planted two hundred tubers of yam. ( Eni gbin ogorun ebu isu, to ni igba loun gbin, to ba je ogorun ooto tan, yoo je ti iro sii).
When they said they were going to negotiate with Wike, I told them that they had nothing to place on the table.
At the point they started talking about negotiations, winners and losers have emerged.
I told them that losers don’t negotiate, they beg. They plead for mercy and survival.
Contrary to Governor Makinde’s confusing position, Wike, on the other hand, addressed his followers with gusto, swags and confidence.
He even had the audacity to mention Governor Makinde’s name when mocking him.
I see that Governor Makinde didn’t reply his old time friend this time around.
What could have been the reason for that?
Is that an indication that someone has seen reason and is ready to accept reality?
Time will l tell.
