The Oyo state Governor, Eng. Seyi Makinde has reassured retired armed forces, especially the injured and the family of the fallen heroes that his government will continue to cater for their well-being.
Governor Makinde made the pledge shortly after participating in the 2025-armed forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at Remembrance arcade Agodi Ibadan.
The annual celebration is usually a fun filled affair as members of the public are given the opportunity to watch the military in full performance and display of their expertise in march past.
The Oyo state Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde took the salute and inspected the formations of men and officers on the parade.
The major highlight of the event was the laying of wreaths which was performed by nine eminent personalities in the state led by the state Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde and followed by the GOC 2 division of the Nigerian army, Maj Gen Obinna Onubogu, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Oyo State, Evang. Julius Ogunkojo, the Commander 2 Division Garrison, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. H Dasuki, the commander 655, NAF Station Ibadan, Air Commodore George Akinyimika, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodele Sonubi, the speaker, Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, the State Chief Judge, Justice Iyabo Yerima, the Olubadan of IbadanLand, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, represented by Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi and the Widows of the fallen Heroes.
Governor Makinde thereafter released the ceremonial pigeons which is a symbol of peace.
While addressing the press, the governor used the opportunity to charge the security agencies to continue guaranteeing adequate security in Oyo State.
He emphasized the importance of their role in maintaining law and order, which he said is essential for the state’s economic growth and development.
Also, the chairman of the Nigerian legion Oyo state command Evang Julius Ogunkojo, urged serving members of the Nigerian Army to collaborate with the Nigerian Legion and consider joining the organization after their retirement.
Other highlights of the event were the 21-gun salute by the men of Nigerian Army while the state governor Engineer Seyi Makinde gifted a brand-new car to Major Salahu Rasak RTD, who initiated the road safety Corp marshal (Majamaja) in Nigeria.
