Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has received accolades from sports lovers and beyond for fulfilling government promises made to the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) squad that won the National League and WAFU Cup in 1998.
According to the sports broadcaster, Kenny Ogunmiloro, no fewer than 13 letters were written to previous administrations before Governor Makinde emerged to get approval for the awards.
According to Ogunmiloro, two letters were written to the government during the first term of present administration through Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Seun Fakorede but Governor Makinde said none of the letters got to his table while responding to questions on Fresh FM during the build up to 2023 gubernatorial election.
Oginmiloro while quoting Governor Makinde said; “if re-elected, I will look into it”.
FreshPage gathered that Governor Makinde set up 5-man committee; Rev Idowu Ogedengbe, Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan, Mrs Bisi Adegoke, Mrs Bukola and Mr Babayemi to review the request made by the 1998 set of Shooting Stars in 2024 and considered the recommendation and approved allocation of plots of land to the players, technical crew and board members of the 1998 3SC squad that made Oyo State proud.
