His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, showered praise on Rasheed Adekunle Merenge, affectionately urging him to “sing till the following day” during a Sunday civic reception organised in his honour by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) at the University of Ibadan’s International Conference Centre. This gesture underscores Kabiyesi’s appreciation for Merenge’s artistry, spotlighting the fuji musician’s prowess.
Kabiyesi was so enthusiastic that he, along with his three wives, the Chairman of the event and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State danced to Merenge’s music. Oba Ladoja’s warm commendation reflects Merenge’s impactful performance, which resonated with Ibadan’s cultural heartbeat. Guests of all political affiliations danced to his music. Interesting!
Rasheed Merenge contributes to Nigeria’s rich fuji tradition, rooted in Yoruba rhythms evolving from wéré music pioneered by the late Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister (SAB).
