The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on Thursday, August 22nd, retired at the age of 70.
Justice Ariwoola began his judicial career in 1982 as a Senior Magistrate Grade II in Oyo state judiciary.

The jurist was appointed to Supreme Court bench on November 22, 2011 and retired as 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria.

National Judicial Council (NJC) had, on August 15, 2024, disclosed that it had recommended Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for appointment as next Chief Justice of Nigeria.
