The lawmaker representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Hon. Shina Abiola Peller has maintained his stand on proposed bill to repeal Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) act.
Contrary to the reactions the proposed bill generated after it was read for the first time on floor of House of Representatives on February 1st, 2022, the lawmaker asserted that the proposed bill was misconstrued by majority. He clarified that the proposed bill when scaled through will avoid duplication of functions between NSCDC and her sister agency.
Hon. Peller said the creation of Corps was supposed to be free officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to focus on their core policing operations of protecting lives and ensuring the security of property.
The lawmaker emphasized that his proposed bill do not in anyway intend to render people jobless but seek the transfer of assets and personnel of the NSCDC to the Nigeria Police to avoid loss of jobs of its existing personnel.
Hon. Peller submitted that fragmentation of security resources across multiple competing agencies is counterproductive with limited resources.
