Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has picked his Folajinmi Oyekunle as the People’s Democratic Party, PDP candidate for the Ibadan North federal constituency bye-election slated for August.

Oyekunle who is Makinde’s Deputy Chief of Staff emerged as the party’s consensus candidate after days deliberations to pick the right candidate for the contest.

Other aspirants in the race under PDP included Hon. Adeyinka Adeniyi Bibire, Olanrewaju Sarumi, Hon. Waheed Adeniyi Akanbi (popularly known as Biiro), and Taiwo Salami.

In a bid to maintain unity within the party, Governor Makinde has reportedly compensated the other aspirants with strategic appointments within the state government, with announcements coming soon

According to the arrangements, Hon. Adeyinka Adeniyi Bibire is set to replace Oyekunle as Deputy Chief of Staff, while Taiwo Salami will be announced as Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council. Additionally, Hon. Waheed Adeniyi Akanbi Biiro will serve as Chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Authority

The Ibadan North federal constituency bye-election is scheduled to hold on August 16, 2025.
