The recent attempt made by Governor Seyi Makinde to calm the nerves of restless landlords, landladies and property owners in the 6 Local Government Areas affected by the ongoing construction of Ibadan Circular Road yielded no positive results as residents vow to return to street for protest until Governor Makinde address them and cancel additional 350metres for corridor.
FreshPage understands that the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo and Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin at a press conference held Friday instructed officials of the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development to stop marking and demolition of houses beyond 150 metres.

Mr Akin-Funmilayo said that Governor Makinde did not acquire any additional square contrary to the claims that Governor Makinde extended the setback on the road from 150metres to 500 metres.
The Commissioner explained further that additional 350 metres to the left and right igniting resistance by property owners in the axis was acquired and gazetted by the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2018.
But, a press statement by the Secretary, Ibadan Circular Road Community, Mr. Azeez Abass Olaide said the meeting they had with government representatives ended in a deadlock.
Mr. Azeez faulted the claim that the extension was done and gazetted in 2018 under Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
He described government’s remarks at the last meeting as nothing but hollow political rhetoric, blatant lies and baseless attempt to blackmail previous administrations in the state.
“We stood firm on our demand for the government to implement the 150 metres surveyed and gazetted by former Governor, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja for the Ibadan Circular Road project and until our demand of “No More Corridor” Is honoured, the protest will continue”.
