My wonderful “aburo” has added another year and I join others to celebrate the birthday of this exceptional, remarkable
and outstanding individual, Professor Ayodeji Oludare Omole, a renowned scholar and leader in Nigeria’s academic community. As a Professor of Forest/Timber Engineering at the University of Ibadan, Professor Omole has distinguished himself through his groundbreaking research, exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to the emancipation of the masses.

Professor Omole’s academic journey is a proof of his dedication and passion for scholarship. With a PhD in Wood Products Engineering from the University of Ibadan, he has published numerous research articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals, both locally and internationally. His research has significantly contributed to the field of Forest/Timber Engineering and his expertise has been sought after by various institutions and organisations.
His name is synonymous with excellence in the fields of Forestry, Forestry Products, and Natural Resources Management. Professor Omole’s presence is a familiar and welcome sight at conferences and gatherings of professionals in these disciplines.

His leadership skills and courage in the face of adversity are qualities that have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and the academic community. As the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) from 2016 to 2020, he fearlessly criticised bad governance, maladministration, waste and corruption. His leadership and advocacy have been instrumental in promoting the welfare of academics and the development of Nigeria’s education sector.

His appointment as the Chairman of the Oyo State Negotiation Committee on the sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, was a manifestation of his leadership skills and expertise. He successfully led the negotiation, which resulted in the sole ownership of LAUTECH by the Oyo State Government. This achievement has been widely celebrated as a significant milestone in the history of the University.

Currently, Professor Omole serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Vice-Chairman of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State-Owned Universities (COPSUN) and Head of the Department of Forest Production and Products, Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, at the University of Ibadan.

Despite his numerous responsibilities and achievements, Professor Omole is a devoted family man. He is happily married with two wonderful children and his love for family is evident in his commitment to his community. He is fondly addressed as “Omo Egiri-Oke” by his friends, admirers, associates and well-wishers.

As I celebrate Professor Omole’s birthday today, I honour his remarkable achievements, his courage and his dedication to scholarship, leadership and community service. I wish him many more years of good health, happiness and continued success in his endeavours. Happy birthday, Professor Omole! Cheers!!!
