All the pilgrims from Oyo State have moved to Makkah and commenced the Hajj exercise in Islam’s holiest city.

The pilgrims, numbering 1,416, arrived Makkah in batches with the last batches landing in the town on Friday.

The pilgrims started the Hajj rites immediately after arriving at Prophet Muhammad’s birth place.

The pilgrims guided by a Saudi trained cleric Dr Ibraheem Adelani and other prominent clerics working for the State Pilgrim Welfare Board, went to Islam’s holiest site, Kabbah and performed tawaf, the circumambulation of the site.

They also performed the symbolic runs from Safa to Marwa and made supplications for the state and country.

The pilgrims are expected to continue their hajj rites which which will climax with the ascension of Mount Arafat and the slaughtering of rams in commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s attempt to sacrifice his only son in fulfilment of his vow to Allah.
