The Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, CON, mni, FNSE, has given the assurance that the government of Borno State under his leadership will partner University of Ibadan to provide the kind of education that can help turn the country around for better.
He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, in his office.
Professor Zulum thanked the management of the University for finding him worthy to be decorated as a UI@75 Ambassador.
He noted that the visit of the Vice-Chancellor and his entourage to Maiduguri for the decoration showed the level of respect that exists between his humble self and the University of Ibadan.
Professor Zulum said he remained eternally grateful to the University of Ibadan for nurturing him and building his capacity to grow.
He noted that the University of Ibadan has produced so many achievers, some of whom are doing well in Borno State
The Governor said he was nostalgic when he saw the large crowd who had come out to welcome him to Ibadan.
He noted that his visit to UI was a homecoming that gladenned his heart adding that he is always proud of the University of Ibadan and appreciated the warm reception accorded him.
He encouraged the University of Ibadan to continue the good works it has been doing with a view to uplifting the standard of education in Nigeria and the world.
The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor K. O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, described Governor Zulum as a man of honour and of good repute adding that his entourage as well as the people that came from town to receive him, spoke volumes about his personality.
Professor Adebowale appreciated the Governor for his generous hospitality during the visit to Maiduguri for the Governor’s investiture and to decorate him as a UI@75 Ambassador as an alumnus of UI.
He disclosed that UI used that opportunity to plead with Prof. Zulum to deliver the First in the UI@75 Lecture Series which he graciously accepted hence, the reason for his presence in UI.
He stated that UI@75 anniversary celebration would be year-long and a series of lectures and other activities would be held to celebrate this anniversary.
The Executive Governor was accompanied by the State Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Engr Bawu Musami; Special Advisers, and other eminent personalities.
The Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering also sent a delegation to receive the Governor. He later paid a short visit to the Department.
