The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), has reaffirmed that empowering Nigerian teachers with free data and digital tools is central to achieving quality education in a technology-driven world.

Speaking at the Ministerial Roundtable on Zero-Rated Data and Devices for Teachers held on 23rd October 2025 in Abuja, Dr. Alausa said the initiative removes financial barriers preventing teachers from integrating technology into learning.
Organised by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the UK-funded PLANE Programme, the event launched the pilot phase of the Zero-Rated Data and Mobile Devices Initiative under the Education Public-Private Partnership (ePPP) framework. The project will provide teachers, particularly in rural areas, with free internet access and subsidised smart devices.
Dr. Alausa also unveiled solar-powered smart boards with embedded curricula and announced the Ministerial Implementation Committee (MIC) chaired by him and coordinated by UBEC, including partners from TRCN, NERDC, NITDA, Airtel, MTN, UBA, AWS, UNICEF, UNESCO, and FCDO.

He revealed plans to establish a Digital Training Academy with Coursera, AWS, and Pluralsight, expand e-learning platforms, and equip all public schools with smartboards and AI tools by 2027.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, no teacher will be left behind in Nigeria’s transition to digital learning.
