There are indications that crisis rocking the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may take another trend when the tribunal strike out the case before it challenging the primary that produced former Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.
FRESHPAGE.COM.NG understands that there were a lot of issues before and after the first and second primaries that eventually produced Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli. This online news platform reliably gathered that Barrister Alli had on May 28th, 2022 released a statement that he had opted out of the primary following what he and other aspirants described “jaundiced delegate lists in circulation”.
FRESHPAGE recalls that any candidate who is not satisfied with outcome of primary have right to approach court of competent jurisdiction to challenge the party’s primary. Against this background, an aspirant for the Oyo South senatorial primary, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi has approached court to challenge what he described as kangaroo or manipulated primary which produced Barr Alli.
While speaking with FRESHPAGE.COM.NG what informed his decision to challenge the outcome of the primary; “Senator Akanbi said every right thinking individual and party men know that primaries were not properly conducted in Oyo State APC. Akanbi speaks further that the acclaimed winner of the primary didn’t reach out to other contestants after the primary to pacify them in order to accept the outcome of the primary despite its shortcomings.
“Barr Alli called me two months after the primary election whereas I’ve already approached court to challenge the primary. In fact, when he called him, I missed his calls. I was the one that called him back. Barr Alli told me he was angry because I took him to court. He told me as good friend of him, I don’t suppose to go court but didn’t disclosed ANOTHER way of seeking redress as a lawyer”.
Interestingly, this online newspaper recalled that when primary election that produced Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as presidential candidate of the APC ahead of 2023 general elections adjudged free and fair, Tinubu took his time to visit all those that contested against him including his political son, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
FRESHPAGE reliably gathered that it was Senator Akanbi’s lawyer that tells his learned colleague that he should inform Barr Alli to call Soji Akanbi.
As the court adjudicates on the matter on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. No one knows what will be the outcome of the case in court.
