Tobiloba Ogunbanjo, a former House Secretary of Students’ Union in 2012/2013 academic session, University of Ibadan has been called out over alleged financial misappropriation related to the virtual association (World of Uites) of former and present students of the institution.

World of Uites is the largest gram of former and present students of the University of Ibadan. The Instagram account of the association has more than 42,000 followers.

According to Ayomipo Odeyemi, a graduate of the institution and a member of the Instagram Group expressed sadness that all efforts to make sure the convener accounted for financial details yield no positive results.

Odeyemi who could not endure the attitude of the convener of the group took the matter to Official Page of the University of Ibadan of Students’ Union on Facebook.

Odeyemi also accused Ogunbanjo of removing him from the WhatsApp Group when he demanded for the details of how the money donated by former students were spent.

Below is the full statement;

Dear Tobiloba Barrack Opayne Ogunbanjo (AKA Barrack Opayne), I hope you are well? I am writing you and calling you out on this forum due to your inability to account for the financial details of the ‘association’ you created on Instagram named World of Uites. Indeed you created an avenue to bring both graduates and current students of UI together https//instagram.com/unibadan__?utm_medium=copy_link, but there have been financial transactions that you have been unable to account for.

Some months ago, you started a campaign about raising tuition fees for some indigent students of the University, I personally paid tuition of 2 students, and I believe others people contributed to this campaign, yet, you have been unable to come out with the details of the campaign. You have not been able to tell us how much was raised, how much was disbursed, who the recipients were/are and how much is left, even after I asked.

You also started a campaign to raise funds to repair the UI/Poly Ibadan gate, however, you have failed to also come up with the financial statements of the donations. Was no money raised?

You recently turned the Instagram page into a PR page for Golden Tulip hotel and you kept mum on the financial details of the deal. Are we missing something? Why did you edit the details of the Instagram page shortly after I raised these issues on the WhatsApp forum a while ago? Because I knew what you could do, I took screenshots of the before and after (please find attached and note the time at the top of the pictures). Even after I had a phone conversation with you months ago concerning accountability, why did you continue to be shady with your actions? Because I raised these issues on WhatsApp, you removed me from the WhatsApp group and decided to engage me privately in my DM, no way!

At this juncture, I am demanding that you publish the details of monies received and spent as regarding the World of Uites platform and if you can’t provide convincing details, I would have no choice than to make a formal complaint to EFCC (this is not a threat). Also, I would report that the World of Uite page be taken down, if you fail to provide satisfying evidences. If we as youths can’t be upright enough, how can we accuse the elders of corruption?

It’s fine if you use your personal social media accounts for these financial transactions, but never fine when you use the name of ‘Uites’ to source for funds without an explanation.

Warmest regards.
