Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo has admitted a total number of two thousand six hundred (2,600) pioneer students for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan made this known at the matriculation ceremony held at multipurpose hall for newly admitted students of the University.
Prof. Olaniyan in his speech expressed his sincere appreciation to the visitor of the University, Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde for his commitment to change education landscape of the state.
Prof. Olaniyan advised the matriculants to shun examination malpractices and other forms of social vices capable of hindering their academic pursuit and bring the name of University into disrepute.
He described the 2600 pioneer students of the University as the lucky ones having satisfied the admission requirements in their O-level results and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Prof. Olaniyan reiterated that all pioneer students were admitted by merit and not by chance. He urged them to guide their admission jealously.
While giving the breakdown about the first admission of the University, Prof. Olaniyan said students from 24 states applied to Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo. Out of which 75% were indigenes and 25% came from outside Oyo State.
Prof. Olaniyan said that the admission revealed the gender sensitivity of the institution as 59% of the matriculants were female while the remaining 41% were male.
While giving the breakdown of the admitted students, Prof. Olaniyan said 3,306 students applied while 2754 got admitted but only 2600 have made the payment for school fees.
The University which has 5 Faculties and running 50 programmes; the breakdown showed that Faculty of Science Education has the highest number of admitted students 738, followed by Faculty of Arts Education with 612 students, Faculty of Social Science with 489, Faculty of Specialized and Professional Education with 364 and Faculty of Vocational & Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education with 397.
The Vice Chancellor charged the new students to strive for academic excellence, set pace for those coming behind them and uphold University’s core values; knowledge, truth and service.
The former Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin in his keynote speech to matriculants, described the students as unique and urged brace up for bigger task ahead of them. Seek support when going gets tough and form alliance and conquer challenges ahead.
Prof. Gbadegesin harped on the need of matriculants to learn new skills for personal growth and advised to utilize their time effectively.
Prof. Saliu AbdulWaheed Adelabu who represented Governor Makinde restated Oyo government commitment to advance education across sectors in the state.
He told the matriculants that University is after their success and all necessary facilities to make them excel will be prioritized by the State government. He advised pioneer students to shun cultism and other vices.
