…as Provost charges new intakes to shun cultism and other social vices
No fewer than one thousand, four hundred (1,400) new students took matriculation oath at the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo during the College 2020/2021 matriculation ceremony held at the BOT Hall, School of Secondary Education (Arts and Social Sciences). The event was held on Thursday, 19 August, 2021.
According to a press release by Wale Adeoye, Special Assistant on Media Matters to the Provost, the College Provost, Dr. Rasak Adetunji Adefabi, JP in his address at the Matriculation Ceremony, charged the new students to see their admission as a blessing from God Almighty to make them a better and informed person in life. According to Dr. Adefabi, “I welcome you to Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo. Be assured that we shall support the dream and vision of your parents and the entire society to make you responsible and informed citizens to be reckoned with, because today education remains the only legacy and instrument to fight poverty and backwardness. The route to the realization of this dream is to hold your studentship of this great institution dearly and in high esteem.
Speaking further, the College Helmsman advised the new students to be committed to their academics. “Spend your time wisely and recognize your studies as your number one priority. Again, try and seek to be on the right part of the law, ensure that you channel your demands through your representatives to the Student Affairs Division where officers in charge will take necessary steps to present your request to the Management for appropriate consideration”, stated the Iseyin-born technocrat.
While further admonishing the new entrants, the Chief Matriculating Officer charged them to be of good behaviour as they are all ambassadors of the College. “Please distance yourselves from all activities that can bring your names and that of the College into disrepute. Under no circumstance should you be involved in anti-social behaviours such as examination malpractices, cultism, drug abuse, gangsterism and other unwholesome behaviour that may likely jeopardize your academic career in life. Emmanuel Alayande College of Education has zero tolerance for lawlessness and violence. There is no room for cultism as all machineries had been put in place to stem the tide of the ugly menance of cultism. The damage to life and career is immeasurable”, he stated.
The Obafemi Awolowo University first class graduate thanked the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, FNSE for creating an enabling environment for learning. He expressed his deep appreciation to the 14th Governing Council under the leadership of Prof. Matthew Odedokun, staffers and students of the College for the support his administration is enjoying since he assumed office on May 16, 2014. “We particularly appreciate His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde for the kind gesture of the upgrade of the College to the status of a Univeristy. This is a clear demonstration that the College is working with time and should not be left behind in the tide of progress. We assure His Excellency of the support and cooperation of all the staff and other College stakeholders in ensuring that the transition is smooth and perfect.”
“Let me register my appreciation to the entire workforce overtime since our administration came on board in May, 2014. The Management is higly grateful. We are proud of the fact that, the College is blessed with a set of balanced workers, stable in mind and thoughts. It is important that we appreciate the doggedness and sacrifice of the members of the 14th Governing Council and the College Management as well as our Deans and Directors for working tirelessly in ensuring that the College maintains its first place in the comity of teacher educational institutions in Nigeria”, the Provost stated.
Earlier the College Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi S. Asunmo called out the new students for taking of oath while the Provost administered the oath in the presence of members of the College Management and College Community.
Among the dignitaries present at the Matriculation ceremony were College Management Team, Academic Board Members, Deans and Directors of Academic Programmes, Sub-Deans, Heads of Academic and Service Departments, Assistant Directors, Assistant Deputy Registrars, Centre Coordinators, Sandwich NCE, Chairmen of the College Staff Unions, President, Students’ Union Government, Honourable Members of the SUG, Parents and Guardians.
