Mr Olayiwola Oluokun

The Acting Provost, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo, Dr. Nelson Aderemi Oyewo has received with great shock the news of the demise of the Pioneer Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance, Mr. Olayiwola Oluokun. The sad event occurred on Monday, 19 December, 2022.

According to the College Chief Executive, “I received with great shock the news of the death of our respected oga, Mr. Olayiwola Oluokun who was reported dead on Monday, 19 December, 2022. Mr. Oluokun served this College meritoriously and distinguished himself in his service to Oyo State. He was a great man and shall be sorely missed. May God grant him eternal rest”.

Mr. Olayiwola Oluokun, a respected educationist, technocrat and administrator was born on March 24, 1954 in Oyo town, Oyo State. He attended L. A Town School, Idi-Ope, Oyo between 1960-1965; L. A. Secondary Modern School, Durbar, Oyo between 1966-1968 for his Modern Three Certificate; Baptist College, Iwo between 1970-1972 for Teacher’s Grade II Certificate; University of Ibadan where he studied Mathematics/Geography and graduated with a Bachelor of Education (First Class Honours). He finally capped it up with a Master’s degree in Educational Evaluation in September, 1982 from the same University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.

Young Oluokun started his working career as a Youth Corp Member at St. Patrick Grammar School, Eredo, Epe, Lagos in August, 1979-July, 1980. He got appointed as a teacher at Iroko Grammar School, Iroko between August 1, 1980 and October 3, 1982. He joined the service of the Oyo State College of Education, Ilesa (now Osun State College of Education, Ilesa) on October 4, 1982 and was there till July 31, 1992.

By reason of deployment arising from the creation of Osun State from the old Oyo State, the Oyo-born educationist joined St. Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo on August 1, 1992 as a Lecturer II. He rose through the ranks and became a Chief Lecturer on October 1, 2003. He served the College in various capacities at committee levels and was respected by all. He was Head, Department of Curriculum and Instruction (December 1, 1998- March 31, 2001); Head, General Education Studies (April 1, 2001- March 31, 2003); Member, College Academic Board (1998-2003); former Dean, School of Education; former Director, EACOED Consult Service and served as the pioneer Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance. As a scholar of repute, he attended numerous seminars, conferences and published in many reputable journals both locally and internationally. He formally bowed out of the service of the College in 2019 upon the attainment of 65 years of age.

Olayiwola Oluokun, a devoted Baptist was happily married and blessed with four children.
