Glaringly, unemployment and poverty are endemic among Nigerian youths and may likely persist if all the stakeholders fail to continually put in their concerted inputs. But then, a part of me still strongly believes that government (at all levels) have the power and needed resources to make and implement plans towards unlocking the potentials of the teeming youths that litter the country, unemployed.
It isn’t too much to ask or out of place to say that youth empowerment should top the list of any government’s plans and policies if indeed rapid development is desired. Real, good and credible empowerment and capacity building provide young people access to useful information needed for improved livelihood. Also, when youths’ talents are optimally utilised, a developed country emerges, maybe miraculously. Unfortunately, youth empowerment in this part of the world is hypocritically done (by some) and seems to get little or no attention.
Meanwhile, are you also of the opinion that tricycles, motorcycles, grinding machines, freezers, sewing machines, clippers, scholarships etc. are not entirely bad as part of empowerment packages especially in this not-encouraging economy? Such kind act has saved lives and provided a means of livelihood for beneficiaries. Worthy of mention here is Honourable Dapo Lam Adesina popularly called #OmoOloore who represented Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency as Member, House of Representatives (2015-2019).
He did well for constituents in terms of legislative and other core assignment as a lawmaker that the good people of Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency are clamouring to have him again in the Green Chamber.
Reminiscing about his youth empowerment scheme, I am convinced we have governorship materials at hand. Calm, Focused and visionary leader. A person who empowered hundreds of constituents (youths) with professional start-up equipments and cash donations among many other things within 25 months or so deserves the party’s ticket.
The overwhelming love he enjoys from youths isn’t accidental. He is youth oriented and loaded with many youth programmes and projects. If not, name one Honourable in the state who employed at least forty youths as staff in his or her Constituency Office, paying reasonable monthly renumeration. Only Omooloore did that.
For improved development to come, certain processes and mechanisms have to be maintained and implemented. Part of that process is endorsing and supporting Honourable Dapo Lam-Adesina for 2023.
