A non-interest group in the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo Must Be Great (OMBG) has urged the members of the caretaker committee of the party to allow for free and democratic elections at any ward where consensus seems impossible.
It should be earlier recalled that the group has recently raised an observation that, it will be necessary for the party to allow the internal democracy to prevail in the party ahead of the Saturday 31st of July ward congress of the party across the state of the federation.
The group through her Coordinator and Convener, Hon. Ishola Akeem Adetoyese has said; “after careful observation of the processes and happenings around the Saturday scheduled ward congress, it will be important to state categorically that, the party should allow the free and democratic elections to hold in any ward in the state where the consensus fails so that nobody will feel aggrieved and marginalized at the end of the exercise.
“We must be sincere with ourselves as a party, and be open as progressive followers and actors, and at the same time be coordinated to distinguish ourselves from the way of others we have always been quick to criticize and condemned.”
“We could recall that the last stakeholders meeting held direct party men and women to go back to their respective wards to mobilize and at the same time work on a consensus where possible and go for free and democratic elections where consensus seems impossible. And with the look of things, and the information in the general domain is that not all the wards in the entire state are embracing the consensus” the group coordinator and convener said.
“One reason why we are requesting for the caretaker committee to allow the free and democratic elections where consensus seems to have failed is for us to show the world that we are indeed Ajisebi Oyo laari, Oyo ki se Baba eni kookan; and to show to the party at the National level that we are politically mature. The group said
“Also, we are advising the members of the caretaker committee in the state to do everything possible to carry everybody along and make sure that internal democracy is prevailed in the party so as not to allow what happened to the party in 2019 happened again”
“Let us allow a genuine internal democracy to thrive in the party and make sure that the party waxes stronger than ever before even after the congress”
