The Executive Committee of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) on Tuesday celebrated the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, FAS, mni, with pomp and pageantry during a courtesy visit to UI.

President-General of the CCII, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga said the VC was celebrated for being the first ever Ibadan man to be appointed Vice Chancellor of the Premier university. He stated that the CCII was glad that Professor Adebowale was appointed because he merited the position and not because he is a “son of the soil”.

He explained that the CCII would have visited the VC earlier but for the prolonged industrial action of the University based Unions.

On behalf of the Olubadan and all Ibadan people, Prince Adeaga prayed for a successful tenure for the VC. He noted that no one is infallible and prayed that God will continually lead the VC aright.

He then urged the VC to be involved in Ibadan affairs. He also enjoined the University to promote religious education because majority of the moral decadence in the society is learnt from wrong religious teachings.

Prince Adeaga also solicited the University’s support for the upcoming celebration of the Kiriji war, the end of which he said, led to the unification of the Yoruba race.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, FAS, mni, said he was very happy to be an indigene of Ibadanland.

He recollected the generosity of Ibadan people in donating the very large expanse of land on which the University is situated adding that this was an indication of the peaceful nature of the Ibadan people.

He noted that Ibadan is lucky to host the University of Ibadan which is one of the glories of Nigeria.

On the CCII team were, Dr Tirimisiyu Oladimeji, the First Vice President; Baale Alamu Oloyede Ibikunle, Second Vice President; Akogun Segun Obe, Secretary General; Mr Adebisi Adekunle, Auditor; Barrister Oludare Adewale, Financial Secretary; Alhaji Bukola Mumini Adigun, Public Relations Officer; Elder Gbadegesin Adelabu, Treasurer and Mrs Adetoun Oyelude, President UI/Poly Ibadan Development Union.
