The apex court in Nigeria has directed Oyo State Government led by Engr Seyi Makinde to pay full salaries of the sacked Local Government Chairmen in the state.

The order of the supreme court was contained in judgement which took place at the Apex Court in Abuja on Friday, 7th May, 2021. The court declared the dissolution of the council chairmen illegal.

It would be recalled that Governor Makinde upon his assumption into office ordered the dissolution of the council chairmen through his Chief of Staffs, Chief Bisi Ilaka.

Supreme Court then ruled that the dissolution of the elected LG chairmen on May 23, 2019 is contemptuous.

The Attorney General of the state has been ordered to ensure compliance by the state government with a deadline of August 2021.
