The leadership and members of APC NexGen Oyo, have expressed deep concern and strong disapproval over the recent appointment of a 56-year-old individual in person of Mr. Imran Ayinde Olona as the Oyo North APC Senatorial Youth Leader.

According to the press statement jointly issued by group’s chairman, Oluwatobi Adisa and secretary, Abdulkareem Ojo Hammed, the group said appointment of Mr. Olona is not only inconsistent with the spirit of youth inclusion but also runs contrary to the provisions of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress, which clearly defines youth leadership age limit to be within age 18-40 years old.

The group noted that By APC standards, an individual above 55 years of age does not qualify to occupy a Youth Leader position and cannot use the position to attain his retirement age at 60 which coincides with the age in which his tenure might lapse.

“Youth leadership positions exist to promote genuine youth participation, innovation, and representation within the party. Appointing someone who is 56 years old defeats this purpose and sends a discouraging message to vibrant, capable, and committed young party members who have laboured tirelessly for the growth of the party.

“We find it particularly unjust that energetic and loyal youths within the same political camp were overlooked, including Popoola Hassan, a vibrant and active party youth, as well as Mufeed Dallax, a gainfully employed and educated young member who has consistently demonstrated commitment to party ideals and youth mobilization.

“Furthermore, APC NexGen Oyo, notes that Balogun Mustapha Sile is the widely accepted and consensus choice among the youths of Oyo North for the position of Senatorial Youth Leader. His acceptability across wards, proven loyalty to the party, and consistent engagement with young people make him best suited for this role.

“We therefore: Reject the appointment of a 56-year-old as Oyo North APC Senatorial Youth Leader.

“Call for strict adherence to the APC Constitution regarding age qualification for youth offices.

“Demand a transparent and inclusive process that reflects the true spirit of youth representation.

“Strongly recommend that Balogun Mustapha Sile be declared the Oyo North APC Senatorial Youth Leader in line with the wishes of the majority of party youths.

“Urge the Oyo State APC leadership to immediately review and correct this anomaly in the interest of party unity and credibility.

“The future of the APC depends on empowering genuine young people, not recycling positions meant for youth among those who no longer fall within the youth category.

“We remain loyal to the party and committed to its success, but we will continue to speak out against actions that undermine youth development and constitutional order within the APC”.
