The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has reiterated that the alumni community of any university has a vital role to play in the continued development of such an institution.

Given that the government can no longer solely fund public education, it is imperative that a university deepens its relationship with its alumni.

He made the statements while receiving the Executive Committee Officers of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association (Worldwide) in his office during a courtesy visit.

Professor Adebowale said it was in realisation of the invaluable role of the alumni community that the university created an Office of Alumni Relations.

He said the Office of Alumni Relations will be further strengthened with the appointment of a professional to head the office.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that there will be no overlap in the functions of the Office of Alumni Relations and that of the UIAA adding that the Office of Alumni Relations seeks to reach out to all members of the alumni community, many of whom do not belong to the UIAA.

The new President of the UI AA , ( Worldwide) Professor S. G. Nyityo pledged the loyalty of his team to the management of the University of Ibadan.

He said the UIAA was ready to work in close partnership with the university in reaching out to the alumni.

Professor Nyityo said the University of Ibadan is a Centre of Excellence given its numerous alumni that have held and are still holding key positions in government and industry.

On the President’s entourage were other Worldwide officers, namely RAS Joseph Akaanan, 2nd Vice President; Professor O. J. Abolagba, 3rd Vice President; Dr Sarah Akintola, Secretary; Chief Uchemadu Abosi, 1st Assistant Secretary; Mr Abel Johngold , Publicity Secretary ; Mr Chris Obileri 2nd Ex-officio; and Mr Patrick Oyameda, 3rd Ex-officio.
