The Vice Chancellor, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan has commended Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for his visionary leadership and commitment to education sector in the state.
Professor Olaniyan made the statement at the Press Conference held at the Senate Chamber of the University on Monday as part of the activities marking the 3rd Foundation Day Ceremony of the citadel of learning.
Professor Olaniyan in his address said the transformational leader, Gov Makinde has approved the release of significant amount from the N1billion take off grant meant for the institution since its birthed on December 16, 2022. He acknowledged that the governor has done wonderfully well in facilitating infrastructure to the school to deliver on its mandate.
The Vice Chancellor said it is important to let number one visitor of the institution, university community and all stakeholders know what the University is doing since it started, what it is about to do and how University is planning to go about the executing its plans.
Professor Olaniyan recalled that Oyo State House of Assembly passed a bill for the upgrade of the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo to University status December 12, 2022 and became a full-fledge University on December 16, 2022, just four days after the bill was passed. He noted that Governor Makinde led Oyo state delegation to National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja to receive the certificate for the University to kick-off.

Prof. Olaniyan noted that after the certification, many things didn’t start until he was pronounced Vice Chancellor of the University on the 9th of August, 2023.
‘’Two years ago, to be precise, December 15, 2023, this University has no single student, because we were yet to register with the JAMB Cap, though we have gotten approval to run 50 programmes in 5 Faculties by NUC. It will interest gentlemen of the press that, when we eventually commenced our programmes in 2023/2024 academic session, we were able to admit 2,726 students as pioneer students. Last session we recorded improvement in the number of admitted students and in this 2025/2026 academic session, we admitted 3,860 students. Currently, our students’ population within three academic sessions now 9,620 with over 1000 staff strength.’’

Prof. Olaniyan while given account of stewardship on promotion of staff members said that 47 lecturers were promoted to professorial cadre while 86 lecturers also got promoted in the teaching category. He noted that 30 junior staff were promoted and 116 senior staff members were promoted in the non-teaching category.

Prof. Olaniyan acknowledged the performance of staff members who are blazing trail in research and won grants in US Dollars and students that have done university proud in various competition they participated in the last one year.
He appreciated the relationships between the university community and security agencies, and called for more harmonious relationship and synergy to guanrantee the safety of staff, students and host community.
