The Oyo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism is partnering with the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) to celebrate World Tourism Day 2023 at Captain Bower’s Tower Ibadan. For the last four years, the State has celebrated Tourism Day at different locations, including Idere Hills, Ibarapa (2019), Iyake Lake, Ado-Awaye (2021), Iyamopo, Agebele in Igbeti (2022).

According to the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, this year’s Tourism Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, 27th September, 2023 at the Captain Bower’s Tower, Oke-Are, Ibadan. This is the first time World Tourism Day will be marked at a tourist site in Ibadan.

“As part of this year’s celebration, we will be hosting guided tours of Bower’s Tower all day for free,” Dr Olatubosun said. He also revealed there would be a lecture at the venue based on the theme, “Tourism and Green Investment”, to be delivered by Prof. R. A. Alabi of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Ibadan. He, therefore, invited everyone to come and be part of the celebration.

Guests expected at the event include: Engr Dotun Sanusi (Chairman), Chief Bayo Oyero and Chief Mrs Mutiat Ladoja (Father and Mother of the Day). Also expected is His Imperial Majesty, The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Mahood Olalekan Balogun, (Royal Father of the Day) who will lead other prominent Obas to the event. Music will be supplied by King Saheed Osupa.
