No fewer than 24 schools participated in the maiden edition of chess competition organized by Oyo State Sports Council.

The competition held at the Adamasingba stadium on Monday with the sole aim of enhancing the learning ability of students through critical thinking.

The Chairman, Oyo State Chess Association, Mr. Iredele Ogunbayo monitored the competition that involved six different categories.

The Chairman reiterated that chess game can assist pupils that have difficulties with calculation or problem solving.

Mr. Ogunbayo gave directives to the participating students in order to bring out the best them. He encouraged them that focus is key in chess game and all eyes must be on the game.

At the end the competition, the participating pupils said the competition would help them in their academic.
