The chairmanship  aspirant for Oyo West Local Government Area  in the last People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries election in Oyo State, Hon. Dahud Temitope Wahab has expressed his sincere appreciation to Oyo State governor over the upgrade of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo to Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo.

OPEN LETTER OF APPRECIATION TO OYO STATE GOVERNOR, ENGR. SEYI MAKINDE

Your Excellency Sir,

I will begin by congratulating the good people of Oyo town and appreciating you on the recent upgrade of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education to a University of Education in Oyo town. It is indeed a milestone achievement; the moral, commitment and strength exercised towards actualising this will never go unnoticed. This will significantly stand as an achievement to not only good people of Oyo town but to Oyo State in general to be remembered as a goodwill from you sir, indeed you’re are a “Talk and do Governor”.

Education is one of the essentials vehicle of development of human resources. Training qualified and competent teachers is key to this. If you would agree with me Sir, one of the goals that drive economic development in every nation in this century is Education; improving manpower, developing human resources through capacity building which are all imbedded in human capital. The Chinese realize this early enough, today we can witness how it has helped propel economy transformation of China.
Human resources is very essential for our national economic growth, especially at a period where we are diversifying from our mono national economic quagmire. The necessity to diversify to a more flexible and productive means should be at top gear which I believe the establishment of a University of Education in Oyo has come to achieve.

In addition, I appreciate your efforts on infrastructures ranging from
– Reconstruction of our ancient Akesan Market to an ultra modern market
– Construction of 5.25km Gedu – Oriki – Sabo – Ashipa Road.

– Oyo State School of Nursing and Midwifery, Oyo Campus that was abandoned by previous administration is also back!

And now to the most recent upgrading of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education to a University, I need to appreciate your vision and mission, because I clearly understand that all your efforts in development of Oyo state are complimentary. Infrastructure development and human capital should go hand in hand. The magnitude of infrastructure works going across the state and the nation require skills. It is essential for the state to produce skill personnel that will meet this demands which will in turn reduce over reliance on expatriate thereby saving the state huge sum that should circulate in our economy. Huge investment in our Educational institutions and practical solutions to our infrastructure demands will make this realistic.

Oyo state has moved up in Educational Ranking in Nigeria but I believe with more steps like this from your Excellency, we will be ranked as number one in education in Nigeria soon. This is a demonstration that education advancement is on right course in our state annd we must continue to leverage on it to achieve not only a literate population but critical thinkers that can solve economic problems.

To this end sir, i table my the following before People’s Governor;

• The state government should consider to name the University in honour of one our Heroes from Oyo town.

• The state government should set aside special Educational Fund in the state budget to ensure effective funding of the University.

• The state government should set up special committee comprising of professionals, legislators and executives to critically supervise and checkmate every activities of the schools so as to ensure it intended purpose.
