Co-Convener, Oyo State Sports Summit 2026 | University of Ibadan Alumnus

The organisers of the Oyo State Sports Summit 2026 have announced plans to recognise Professor Oladele Oladipo for his contributions to sports science, professional coaching development and the advancement of sports in Oyo State.

Professor Oladipo, whose professional work spans sports science, exercise physiology, coaching education and athlete development, has played an important role in strengthening the knowledge base and professional standards required for sustainable sports development.

His expertise reflects the importance of scientific approaches to training, athlete preparation, performance management and the development of effective coaching systems. These areas remain critical to building a competitive sporting environment and improving the quality of athlete development in Oyo State.

The recognition will form part of the maiden Oyo State Sports Summit, scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, 2026, at Mauve21, Ring Road, Ibadan. The summit, themed “Beyond the Podium — People. Performance. Progress. Legacy,” will bring together athletes, sports administrators, policymakers, coaches, investors and other stakeholders to examine the opportunities and challenges within the state’s sporting ecosystem.

Beyond the proposed recognition, Professor Oladipo has also been invited to participate as a resource person in the session on Athlete Welfare and Performance Pathways. The session will examine how scientific training, professional coaching, athlete welfare and structured development pathways can improve sporting outcomes.

His participation is expected to enrich conversations around the need to move beyond talent identification towards a more deliberate system that supports athletes from grassroots discovery through elite performance and career transition.

For Oyo State, strengthening sports development requires more than sporting facilities and competitions. It also demands investment in knowledge, research, coaching capacity, athlete support and institutions that can sustain progress over time.

Professor Oladipo’s proposed recognition underscores the summit organisers’ commitment to celebrating individuals whose contributions extend beyond medals and podium appearances. It also highlights the importance of recognising the professionals who help build the systems, expertise and structures that make sporting success possible.

Speaking on the proposed recognition, Ibrahim Akindele, Co-Convener of the summit and an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, noted that acknowledging professionals who have contributed to sports development is essential to preserving institutional knowledge and inspiring the next generation.

According to him, the summit seeks to create a platform where experience, expertise and fresh ideas can come together to shape a more sustainable future for sports in Oyo State.

The Oyo State Sports Summit 2026 will feature panel discussions, stakeholder engagements and recognition of distinguished contributors to sports, alongside conversations on athlete welfare, grassroots development, sports infrastructure, financing and the growth of the sports economy.

The organisers believe that celebrating Professor Oladipo and other contributors will reinforce the summit’s central message: sustainable sporting success is built not only by those who compete, but also by those who teach, prepare, support and create opportunities for athletes to excel.
