The All Progressives Congress candidate for Saki West State Constituency in the 2027 Oyo State House of Assembly election, Hon. Shittu Ibrahim and serving lawmaker , has accused Gov. Seyi Makinde of being a political bigot and hostile to Muslim lawmakers.
Ibrahim made the allegation while addressing supporters and members of a Muslim body in Saki, where he recounted his experience as a Muslim lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The APC candidate alleged that Muslim lawmakers were subjected to unfair treatment, claiming that they were treated “like slaves” compared with their Christian counterparts.
He specifically accused Makinde of what he described as religious and political bias, alleging that the governor treated Muslim legislators poorly because of their faith.
Ibrahim said his experience in the Assembly had shaped his position on the need for Muslims to be politically conscious ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged Muslim voters to reject governorship candidates who, according to him, could not guarantee fairness and equal treatment for people of different religious backgrounds.
The lawmaker also appealed to Muslims to support a candidate who would be “magnanimous” and “detribalised” in the exercise of political power, irrespective of religion or ethnic affiliation.
He said the Muslim community should not take its political choices for granted, urging voters to examine the records and dispositions of candidates before casting their ballots.
The allegations are coming as political parties intensify mobilisation across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship and legislative elections.
The governor and his administration have previously maintained that the government treats residents of different religious backgrounds fairly and promotes peaceful coexistence among Muslims, Christians and traditional worshippers.
