The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC) has officially announced Thursday, October 15, 2026, as the date for the Yoruba Youth Summit, scheduled to hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The summit, themed “Celebrating the Legacy of Late Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo, GCFR (1909–1987),” is aimed at promoting the enduring ideals of visionary leadership, youth development, unity, integrity, and good governance championed by the late nationalist and statesman.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the President of the Yoruba Youth Council, Mogaji Alawode Rahmon Akintunde, and made available to journalists following the National Working Committee (NWC) monthly meeting of the Council held on 5th July, 2026.

According to the statement, preparations for the summit are in top gear, while the Council has formally sought the approval of the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, under the leadership of the Honourable Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, to host the landmark gathering.
The Council noted that the summit will bring together thousands of Yoruba youths, traditional rulers, government officials, policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, captains of industry, and other critical stakeholders from across the South-West and beyond to deliberate on issues affecting youth development and the future of the Yoruba nation.
The YYC emphasized that the event will also serve as a platform to inspire a new generation of responsible leaders by drawing lessons from the life, values, and remarkable contributions of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo to Nigeria’s political, educational, and socio-economic development.
The Council called on Yoruba youths, corporate organizations, development partners, and public institutions to support the initiative and actively participate in making the summit a historic and impactful gathering.
