Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement for the 2027 general election, pledging far-reaching reforms to Nigeria’s security architecture if elected president.
Makinde’s emergence followed the party’s presidential primary, where delegates overwhelmingly endorsed his candidacy, positioning him as the flagbearer of the APM ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, the Oyo State governor outlined his vision for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria, stressing the need for urgent reforms to address the country’s security challenges.
According to him, the current security framework requires significant restructuring to enable sub-national governments to respond more effectively to threats within their jurisdictions.

“As President of Nigeria, come May 29, 2027, I will work to reform our national security architecture so that states are no longer left helpless in moments of crisis,” Makinde declared.
He noted that insecurity remains one of the greatest obstacles to national development, adding that his administration would prioritize intelligence gathering, community policing, inter-agency collaboration, and the deployment of modern technology to combat criminal activities across the country.
Makinde further emphasized the need for a security system that allows state governments to play more active roles in safeguarding lives and property while maintaining national cohesion and constitutional order.
The APM presidential candidate also promised to build on his governance experience in Oyo State, saying his administration would focus on economic growth, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and job creation.

Party leaders described Makinde’s emergence as a significant milestone for the APM, expressing confidence in his capacity to offer Nigerians a credible alternative in the 2027 presidential election.
They urged party members and supporters across the country to unite behind the candidate and work towards expanding the party’s grassroots support ahead of the polls.
