Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state is synonymous with reckless comments. No matter how sensitive a matter is, the Governor of Oyo state is not someone known to possess the ability to chew his words before spewing them. There was a time I said that one of the weaknesses of Governor Seyi Makinde is the microphone.

I have never, in my life, seen a public servant who misbehaves anytime they handle the microphone like the Governor of Oyo state. Many times, I used to wonder if his incessant misbehavior every time he handles a microscope could actually be attributed to an enchantment. ( Efun’nbeedi?).
We are currently going through difficult times in Oyo state, or should I say, we should be. It’s going to two weeks now that Bandits have kidnapped Teachers and Pupils of some public schools in Oyo state.
One of the abducted Teachers had been murdered in cold blood by the demons who abducted them. One would have expected that the Governor of Oyo state, the Chief Security officer for the state, someone who should be the chief mourner, would be measured in his statements regarding the failure of security in the state.
In all honesty, the problems of insecurity could not be totally blamed on Governor Seyi Makinde but that is not to say that he doesn’t have his own share of blames in the problems we have at our hands presently in Oyo state, neither should it give him the leverage to make reckless comments.
As the Chief Security Officer of Oyo state, he has his own responsibilities assigned to him by Law, no matter how little or inconsequential they might appear.
For example, I was just informed this afternoon that Bandits allegedly wrote to a public Secondary school in Bakatari, a Community under Omi Adio, Ido Local Government of Oyo state.
I was informed that the School Authorities reported this matter to appropriate Authorities in the state and in reaction to the frightening incident, two police officers were allegedly posted to guard the School.

Understandably, both the Teachers and the Pupils of the particular public Secondary school have mostly abandoned the school premises for fear of attacks by bandits.
If the information above is correct, let us ask ourselves, can two police officers stop a Bandit attack, God forbid that such should happen again?Whose responsibilities is it, to primarily protect the schools in Oyo state?
The kind of situation we are currently having in Oyo state has called for Governor Seyi Makinde to brief the president and ask for specific assistance when and where required. Has Governor Seyi Makinde approached the president for briefing and assistance?
I am bringing these issues up because of the very reckless and illogical comments made by Governor Seyi Makinde during the unveiling of Bimbo Adekambi as the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM.
I watched the Governor contradicting his earlier position on the formation of State Police and I became worried for the abducted victims who are still waiting to be reunited with their loved ones.
I am saying this with all sense of seriousness, Governor Seyi Makinde is a very dangerous man.
How could someone who once described the formation of State Police as a waste of time, turn around and begin to accuse the Federal Government of delaying the process?
Let us ask Governor Seyi Makinde, when it was agreed that Governors should submit memorandum for the creation of State Police, did he, as the Governor of Oyo state submitted any document?
Specifically, Governor Seyi Makinde was on Channels Television on March 25, 2024 and in an interview with the Television station, he said he did not submit a memorandum for State Police because he saw the process as a waste of time.
There are some people who Yorubas believe that if you saw them and you saw a snake, it would profit you to save the snake and attack them.
If you listened to Governor Seyi Makinde mingling the issue of the Amotekun Corp with the current situation and you didn’t have information about what prompted both situations, you would be deceived to believe that he was making some sense, whereas, he was only being hypocritical.
Largely, the issue of the Amotekun Corp became necessary mainly because of the very rampart Farmers/Herders clashes under the presidency of the late Mohammodu Buhari.
Yes, there was the Owo Church attack which eventually provoked serious actions from the late Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu but the series of attacks against Farmers in the South West of Nigeria at the time was largely responsible for the formation of the Amotekun Corp.
So, when Governor Seyi Makinde said that the Lagos state Government didn’t embrace the formation of the Amotekun Corp at the time, it wasn’t because Tinubu didn’t support the formation of the Corp, it was due to the fact that Lagos state has no forests where killer herdsmen were hibernating at the time and it is common knowledge that Lagos state doesn’t have lands suitable for farming.
Residents of Lagos state do not have farm lands which killer herdsmen could attack.
Lagos state, as a former seat of the Government of the Federation has its own peculiar security challenges and successive Governments have been responding to such challenges effectively and adequately.
If anyone should be claiming the credit for the formation of the Amotekun Corp, it should be the late Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu and not some opportunists like Governor Seyi Makinde.
We know how the late Governor stood against the Federal Government at the time and how it almost cost him his Governorship at the Supreme Court.
We do not require Governor Seyi Makinde to spice up the story to his favor and I am surprised that he still got the nerves to throw shades at political opponents in a critical time like this.
When we were younger, we used to call fellows who would not agree with popular opinions ” alaso kan”.
I don’t even know why Governor Seyi Makinde always thinks that each time he holds the microphone to address his followers, he thought all of us listening to him through the Media are dafts.
Governor Seyi Makinde!
The same Governor Makinde who was helpless when some Fulanis were wrecking serious havoc in Igangan?
When they attacked Igangan in the dead of night, leaving behind tales of woes, wreckages and blood?
If not for the intervention of Sunday Igboho, perhaps, the whole of Ibarapa Land would have been taken over by the Fulanis while Governor Makinde was enjoying Christmas with his family in the United States of America.
How could we have forgotten such frightening moments in our lives?
A whole Governor was helpless but it took just one man, a non state actor like Sunday Igboho to drive away the Fulanis from Igangan at the time.
It is good for Governor Seyi Makinde to point accusing fingers at the Governor of Lagos state who he accused of not signing up for the creation of the Amotekun Corp, even when it is obvious that the case of Lagos state is peculiar.
How would Governor Seyi Makinde describe his own refusal to shut down Oyo state during Covid 19?
Unfortunately, most of this dangerous elements leveraged on Governor Seyi Makinde’s stubborness to infiltrate to Oyo state during the Covid 19.
Most of us who started to notice the influx of this dangerous elements raised the alarm at the time but our cries fell on stone deaf ears.
The last time I checked, a Law banning open grazing of Cattle was passed in this state, was it not?
Let’s ask Governor Makinde, the Governor who knows it all, is that Law operational in Oyo state?
Or, should we also blame Tinubu for that?
If the Governor doesn’t know, I think we need to school him.
You can not kill the Local Governments and deprive them of statutory funds and expect things to go well, even in the area of security.
Local Government Executives, by their positions, are equally recognized by Law, as Chief Security officers for their respective Local Governments.
How effectively is the Governor empowering them to perform this very important function?
You have consistently turned the Local Government Chairmen to ” Gbewudani” and you are here, having the mouth to pass your failure unto others!
Even the Amotekun Corp Governor Seyi Makinde was boasting about, how effective are they?
How well mobilized are they?
You just put together a group of people who you pay a paltry sum of 40 thousand Naira monthly, ill equipped, morales so low and you’re bragging about such a rag-tag organization.
It will interest you to note that those Amotekun Corp do not have a permanent job appointment with the Oyo state Government.
How do you expect anyone in their shoes to perform their duties effectively?
I saw the quantum of arms and ammunition that were allegedly recovered from Mukaila Auxiliary when he was arrested.
I am sure that the Amotekun Corp in Oyo state can not boast of half of the ammunition allegedly recovered from Mukaila Auxiliary and this is Mukaila Auxiliary who said that Governor Seyi Makinde and Seye Famojuro approached him, asking him to be their ‘ security ‘ for the 2019 gubernatorial election.
You said you were going to purchase Aircrafts for security surveillance in Oyo state, the lickspittles were clapping.
You said you were going to build an Airstrip at Igbeti, your online rats didn’t allow us to sleep.
Those who collected bribes of SUV cars sang your praises and said you are better than Awolowo, Ajasin, Bola Ige, Bisi Onabanjo and Jakande rolled into one.
So, where are the Aircrafts now, if we must repeat that question?
Where is the Airstrip at Igbeti?
If Governor Seyi Makinde will always find it difficult to control his tongue each time he holds the microphone, we will not be tired of exposing his hypocrisy to the world and we will watch with joy as his ‘ Olentelafas ‘ hit their heads against each other, in anger and frustration, as we batter the Governor left right and center.
When a child says his mother would not sleep, he, also would not slumber.
Sola Abegunde.
