Today, I join family members, friends, associates, political leaders, political mentees and admirers across Nigeria and beyond to celebrate an extraordinary statesman, a rare intellectual, and a leader of timeless relevance—an expert in Regional Security and International Relations, a distinguished former Governor of Ekiti State, a respected former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a Visiting Professor at the African Leadership Centre, King’s College London, Dr John Kayode Fayemi as he celebrates 61st birthday anniversary.
Dr Fayemi’s life is a testimony of what purposeful leadership, disciplined service, and deep scholarship can achieve. My political mentor from Fountain of Knowledge has consistently proven that governance is not merely about occupying office, but about bringing knowledge, strategy, and integrity into the business of nation-building. Dr Fayemi’s remarkable understanding of regional security and international relations has, over the years, placed him in a unique position to interpret global trends and apply them to national realities.
At a time when the world is increasingly interconnected and security challenges have become more complex, as an expert in War Studies, JKF’s voice has remained a beacon of clarity, wisdom, and direction to solve complex global crisis.

As a former Governor of Ekiti from 2010-2014 and 2018-2022, Dr Fayemi governed with clear vision, courage, and a strong sense of responsibility across LGAs in the state. Today’s celebrant has demonstrated that leadership must be rooted in fairness, development, and compassion. The policies he initiated as governor for 8 years, the institutions he strengthened, and the values he upheld remain part of his enduring legacy. Dr Fayemi served as Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, he reshaped the forum during his time with laudable projects with the completion of secretariat for Administrative Duties.

As a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Fayemi served Nigeria with dedication and strategic insight, always projecting Nigeria with dignity and ensuring that the interest of the people remained at the centre of decision-making.
By all metrics, Dr Fayemi has redefined Ekiti State politics, he allowed benefactor of his political wizardry, His Excellency, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to take political and economic decisions of Ekiti State.
Dr Fayemi served in various advisory and related capacities. He also served as a consultant to the OECD among others.
Beyond public office, Dr Fayemi’s academic and intellectual accomplishments have continued to distinguish him among intellectual giants. His recognition as a Visiting Professor at the African Leadership Centre, King’s College London is not only a personal milestone, but a proud reflection of the depth of his expertise and the respect he commands on the global stage. The recognition is a proof that excellence, when combined with discipline and integrity, earns honour anywhere in the world.

Dr Fayemi has written extensively on governance and democratisation, civil-military relations and security sector issues in Africa.
As your political mentee, I count it a rare privilege to learn from your wealth of experience. Dr Fayemi’s mentorship has shaped my understanding of leadership, public service, and political engagement. He has taught me that true power lies in character and not being a political jobber. He political aura has taught me that progress is built on ideas and having political mentees like His Excellency, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji that will amplify one’s vision of good governance.
Dr Fayemi’s counsel, encouragement, and firm belief in younger leaders will continue to inspire countless people who look up to him.
On this joyous occasion, I pray that the Almighty God continues to bless JKF with long life, sound health, wisdom, peace, and renewed strength.
