The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Wednesday released the results of the candidates who sat its 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The NECO Registrar, Dantani Wushishi, a professor, while announcing the result at the examination body’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, said a total of 1,367,210 candidates, comprising 685,514 males and 681,696 females, registered for the examinations.
He said, however, a total of 1,358,339 candidates, comprising 680,292 males and 678,047 females, sat the examination.
According to the registrar, of the 1,358,339 candidates who sat the examination, a total of 818,492, amounting to 60.26 per cent, secured credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
In Nigeria, securing admissions into tertiary institutions requires that an applicant secure a credit pass in at least five relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Within the last four years, the performance of candidates has been within the same percentage pass rate, with 60 per cent recorded in 2022; 61.60 per cent in 2023, and 60.55 per cent in 2024.
The NECO boss added that a total of 1,622 candidates with special needs sat the examinations, with 941 of them with hearing impairment, 191 with visual impairment, 100 with albinism, 95 with autism, 110 with low vision, and 185 with Adermatoglyphia.
The examination body said a total of 3,878 candidates were found to have been involved in examination malpractice, “as against 10,094 in 2024, which shows a reduction of 61.5 per cent”.
In 2023, NECO had 12,030 candidates involved in examination malpractice. In 2022, it was 13,595.
The registrar commended the examination body’s officials and other stakeholders, including supervisors, school owners, and education ministries across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, for the support and cooperation offered the examination body, before, during, and after the examinations.
