A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo State, Alhaji Adelakun Adesola Fatai has resigned membership from the ruling party in the State.
Alhaji Adelakun until his resignation was PDP Chairman in Ward 07, Ido Local Government Area. While citing reasons for his resignation in a letter submitted to Party Office in Ido LGA and received by Mr. Iskilu Olowonyo, he stated that Governor Makinde led government failed to fulfill promises made to people of his constituency since 2019.
Alhaji Adelakun is yet to announce his next political move. He said he finds it difficult to convince his constituents to renew their trusts in government that betrayed them.
“With a heavy heart and after deep reflection, I hereby resign as Ward Chairman and a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) effective immediately.
“My commitment to our party’s vision has been unwavering, driven by a belief in its potential to uplift my constituency (Ward 7). However, the consistent failure to fulfill campaign promises in my constituency (Ward 7) has left our people disillusioned for six and a half years.
“They have seen no meaningful dividends of democracy, most especially, good roads. All roads in different areas in my constituency (Ward 7) are inaccessible and in deplorable conditions, areas like Agbofieti Junction to Oganla Orita Faaji to Orisunbare Wire & Cable, in which our Excellency Engr. DR. OLUWASEYI Makinde himself made the promise to the people of these areas during the campaign in 2019 that work would be done on these roads within the first 100 days in office if they voted for him to become governor. But this is another one and a half years in the second term in office, and nothing has been done yet”.
“And those who were in charge of the party and party leaders are less concerned about the welfare of the electorate. Instead, they always create unnecessary crises within the party years ago.
“As elections loom, I find it untenable to ask my constituency (Ward 7) to renew their trust in a party that has not delivered, a task that conflicts with my principles and duty to those I represent. For now, I choose to step back and observe political landscapes hoping for a future where promises translate into action. Should the PDP demonstrate tangible progress in fulfilling its commitments to my constituency (Ward 7), I may consider my return”.
