Below is the full statement of Hon. Repete’s call for unity in APC ahead of August 16, bye-election.
His transition on the 10th of July, 2024, remains a monumental loss to Ibadan North Federal Constituency and the entire progressive family of Oyo State, Southwest, and Nigeria at large. As a 2nd term member of the House of Representatives Abuja, he embodied greatness and excellence in legislation and service. A very rare breed in our political landscape, Hon. Akinremi was a beacon of intelligence, compassion, brilliance, masses centred and people oriented leadership while he was alive. To fill his vacant seat, INEC has now slated a rerun by-election for Saturday, 16th August 2025.
For us in APC, this is not just another electoral outing but it is a sacred duty, a clarion and passionate call to all true progressive elements across Ibadan North to rise and rally behind the APC. We must carry the political torch passed on by our departed brother and leader, and continue the great work he started. Hon. Akinremi laid a very strong political foundation, which his successor must inherit that legacy and be able and ready to expand it.
This election is about consolidating the gains of the past, securing a better future, and preserving the labour of a patriot who served us with dignity and integrity.
As members of APC in Oyo State, we cannot afford complacency. We must not allow the opposition to exploit our temporary differences or grief to their advantage. This is the time for unity and subdue personal ambition for collective progress, and to put the interests of our people first. The fate of our 2027 political direction begins with this crucial election. Let us view it as a prelude to the emancipation of Oyo State people from forces that have since 2019, electorally undermined our potential and impoverished our people despite the trillions of money they have collected from Abuja under the PDP Seyi Makinde led administration.
